Feng shui for sloping blocks and hillside homes
Sloping sites are common in cities like Sydney, Wellington, and San Francisco. Here is how traditional feng shui reads a block that rises or falls.
Land falling away in front
Traditional practice prefers a sense of solid ground and gentle gathering around a home. Where land falls away sharply in front, the concern is that energy and water slide downhill rather than settle.
Grounding and proportion
Homes that cantilever out over a slope, or whose upper levels feel heavier than the base, raise the traditional question of grounding (Top Heavy). Balancing draws on solid, earth-element associations at the base.
Roads on the contour
Hillside roads curve along the contours, so a home can easily sit on the convex (Reverse Bow) side of a bend. A gently embracing approach is read more favourably.
